DNA Paternity Testing
In cases of disputed paternity, DNA analysis performed by Serotech Laboratories determines whether a man can or cannot be excluded as the true biological father of a particular child. The DNA samples are collected from the inner cheek with a sterile cotton swab. The use of these swabs is non-invasive, painless and avoids any health concerns connected with blood products. DNA samples can also be collected from blood or other bodily fluids. If a DNA sample is not available from the presumed father, DNA samples from the presumed father’s relatives can be used to determine the probability of paternity (Relationship Testing).
Serotech Laboratories recognizes that paternity testing results can be required for legal matters where the results of the testing needs to be court admissible, or for private matters where paternity questions need to be resolved but the results will not be submitted to a court of law. Serotech therefore offers two types of DNA paternity testing, a Standard Test (Court Admissible) and a Home Collection Kit.
Standard Tests (Court Admissible)
Standard Tests are court admissible and therefore the DNA samples are collected under a strict chain of custody procedure which includes proof of identification during sample collection. Reports are typically available seven to ten working days after samples are received by the laboratory. Samples can be collected at either of Serotech’s locations or arrangements can be made for collection at one of many collection facilities across Canada. A formal report detailing the Laboratory's findings and their interpretation will be prepared and mailed to the parties or their legal representatives.
Home Collection Kit
Home Collection Kits are mailed to the clients and the samples are collected by the clients and mailed back to the laboratory for analysis. Client names can be kept confidential if desired. The results of the test are reported verbally. The cost for a Home Collection Kit and analysis is lower than a Standard Test (Court Admissable).
Costs
The cost for a Home Collection Paternity Kit and analysis is $280. The cost for each additional child is $100. The cost for a Standard Paternity Test (Court Admissible) is $535. The cost for each additional child is $160. To order please call us at 1-877-DNA-5556 or order online.
