Serotech Laboratories offers a wide range of services to meet various legal and individual needs. Our services include:
Relationship DNA Testing
Relationship DNA testing can be performed in order to determine whether relationships exist between other family members such as grandparents, aunts, uncles or cousins. This type of testing can also be used to determine paternity in a situation where a sample from the presumed father is not available however samples are available from the presumed father’s relatives. The statistical probability determined for a Relationship Test will depend on the closeness of the relationship between the persons. The statistical probability of paternity determined through Relationship testing will not be as high as when a sample from the presumed father is analyzed as with conventional Paternity Tests.
The DNA samples are collected from the inner cheek with a sterile cotton swab. The use of these swabs is non-invasive, painless and avoids any health concerns connected with blood products. DNA samples can also be collected from blood or other bodily fluids.
Serotech Laboratories recognizes that DNA testing results can be required for legal matters where the results of the testing needs to be court admissible, or private matters where questions need to be resolved, but the results will not be submitted to a court of law. Serotech therefore offers two types of DNA Relationship Tests, a Standard Test (Court Admissible) and a Home Collection Kit.
Standard Test (Court Admissible)
Standard DNA Tests are court admissible and follow a strict chain of custody procedure which includes proof of identification during sample collection. For Standard DNA Tests a formal report detailing the Laboratory's findings and their interpretation will be prepared and mailed to the parties or their legal representatives.
Home Collection Kits
Home Collection Kits are mailed to the clients and the samples are collected by the clients and mailed back to the laboratory for analysis. The results of the test are reported verbally. The cost for a Home Collection Kit and analysis is lower than a Standard Test (Court Admissable).
Costs
The cost of a Home Collection Kit and analysis for two individuals is $400. The cost for each additional person is $150. The cost for a Standard Relationship Test (Court Admissible) is $625. The cost for each additional person is $300. To order please call us at 1-877-DNA-5556 or order online.
